How does SearchScene work?

SearchScene is a charitable search engine

SearchScene is a search engine, much like Google. You type your searches into the search box, and we provide you with search results and relevant ads, mostly supplied by our search partner, Bing.

The main difference between Google and SearchScene is that, instead of hoarding all our profits for our shareholders, like Google do, we donate 95% of our profits to charity.

Just like Google, our main sources of revenue are from the ads that you see that accompany your search results. These ads are clearly labelled at the top and bottom (and, if you're using a desktop computer, at the side) of our search results. Just like Google, we also sometimes generate revenue from shopping ads and affiliate links.

The charities we support include major international charities - mostly those focused on fighting climate change and alleviating the suffering caused by extreme poverty around the world, which is only being exacerbated by our changing climate.

You choose your charities

You can choose the charities you want to support by selecting the charities from the heart-shaped charity icon at the top right of every page on SearchScene.com. Every search you make counts as a vote and each vote is divided equally between your chosen charities. At the end of each quarter, our donations are divided amongst all our supported charities according to everyone's votes. (This in no way affects your privacy - we do not tie your votes to your searches, we just store them anonymously on aggregate.) This gives you full control of the charities you want to support.

A first-class search experience

Our underlying search results are powered by Micrososft Bing, giving you highly relevant and up-to-the-minute search results for every search you make. However, we've gone much further than this: we've enhanced some of the search results we get from Bing with our own algorithms, generating advanced knowledge panels and instant answers to supplement Bing's search results. Our aim is to give you a first-class search experience to enable you to transition seamlessly from Google to SearchScene, without having to sacrifice your search experience in the process.

We also showcase some of the world's most stunning scenery on our homepage that changes every day, allowing you to explore some of the world's most beautiful places as you search, hence the name SearchScene. We aim to challenge Bing's claim to be the world's most beautiful search engine.
